One Mama Midwife Antenatal Classes in Sydney’s Inner West are run exclusively by Midwives who practice in the birth unit and are dedicated to helping you feel confident and excited for your birth, postpartum and parenting journey.

We know that there is more than just the birth, so there is a large focus on partners, postpartum, breastfeeding, bottle feeding and baby care (including the evidence behind how baby’s sleep).

  • Yes!! We highly encourage you to bring along your partner or a support person and they are included in your booking. The class places a large focus on how your partner can support you throughout your birth, postpartum and parenting.

  • Research shows that independent, evidence-based antenatal classes, such as One Mama Midwife, can reduce fear, anxiety, interventions and postpartum post traumatic stress disorder. Fear during labour can negatively impact your mental state, slow the progress of your labour, lead to more operative births and increase the rates of negative birth experiences (Gün Kakaşçı, et al., 2023).

    Furthermore, attending Antenatal Classes has been shown to increase self-confidence in the labour room as well as in the postpartum period (Gün Kakaşçı, et al., 2023).

  • Our classes have the unique advantage of being completely evidence-based and up to date. They have been curated by an experienced Endorsed Midwife in consultation with Obstetricians, GPs and Women’s Health Physiotherapists. Meaning that they will give you a holistic understanding of birth, labour, inductions, interventions, caesareans, postpartum and baby care!

    Our classes are held in a supportive and inclusive environment. The classes are interactive, fun, practical and allow you to ask questions. You can also connect with other expecting parents in the Inner West to make your future mother’s group.

    Our classes are one of the only independent childbirth classes eligible for the full Private Health Fund Rebate from all Health Funds.

  • Understanding the process of a caesarean, what your options are, how you can best prepare and heal after your caesarean will help you feel confident and excited going into your caesarean. Knowing all of your available options can significantly improve your birth experience. Because Caesarean Birth is just as much birth as any other!


    Furthermore, a study of over 1900 women who underwent a caesarean section stated that they felt uneducated and unprepared, leading to a negative experience. Thus, highlighting the importance of high quality education on your caesarean birth and postpartum period.
